Automatically converting .aiff files

Is there a way to have iTunes automatically convert .aiff files to  
MP3s, or do I have to manually select each file as it is played?

I want to convert the fiels I am makingwith C-Speech into MP3s for  
later listening, and hoped there was a way to do a one-click  
conversion, so to speak.  You know, iTunes sees the file is .aiff and  
converts it to the correct MP3 quality that I want. Is this possible,  
andifso how?
