ITunes will play data discs but not audio/music discs

Hi folks,

My CD drive seems to spit out audio/music discs, but allows me to play  
data discs such as backup discs of work and books that I kept from my  
semester last year.

Can anyone help me fix this problem. I don't think it is a CD drive  
issue, so i think it is a software issue
