Hi. If you are editing tracks in the songs outline, are these for
files
that are in your library? The only time I see the fields but can't
edit
them with get info is when I have a CD or DVD in the source outline
and the information can't be changed. For example, if I just burned
a playlist to CD as an mp3 CD or data disc, that CD (rather than the
playlist) will be selected in the source outline once iTunes has
finished writing CD. In that case I can't change the information
that's
written on the CD tracks, but I can edit the information if I move
back
to the playlist in the sources outline.
If you are trying to edit tracks that are in your Music library, check
that the files are not locked by another application and that you have
write privileges. Command-r will show you the track in finder. If
you
then get info with command-i under finder. Make sure that the file
is not locked. Check that you have write permission by tabbing to
Ownership & Permissions. If it says "collapsed disclosure triangle"
toggle the field open with option-click. Then VO-keys right arrow
to check that the pop-up button says that you can read and write.
Close each window (get info from finder, and the finder window for
the iTunes track) with command-w when you're done. You may have
to command-tab over to iTunes again when you're done.
Best guess if the track is a file on your disk is that either it's
locked
by another application or for some reason you don't have write
permission - for example, if this was a file added from another user
account or from an external disk with different permission setup.
Checking get info from finder with the command-r and then the
command-i sequence should tell you if this is the case.
Hope this helps.

Esther

Hi. I've had no trouble editing a song in itunes. Make sure that
you're on the info tab instead of the summary tab, because you can't
edit anything in there.
