A number of people use Penny's solution of setting their iTunes library to their external hard drive. You set the library location in the iTunes preferences on the general tab of the Advanced menu (if this hasn't changed). The first entry lets you set the default location for your iTunes Music folder. This is the default location for your music files, if you have "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked. This solution works best for people who are using desktop Macs, since the files are only accessible when the external hard drive is connected. You can also change the default library iTunes Music library location to a different external hard drive if your original hard drive fills up. Also, if the new external hard drive is larger, using the "Consolidate Library" command under the Advanced menu will move all files that were stored in other locations, such as the original external hard drive, into whatever the current setting is for the default iTunes Music Library location.
