It's a mailing list thing and a courtesy -- if you put in 

http://www.code.google.com/mac

then people who read this either in their mail or in the list
archives can just click on the link to go to the web page.

When I post links to posts in the mail archives I actually
change the AT sign to %40 just so people can click on the
links and view them, otherwise the address can't be 
clicked on because the list filters out email-like addresses
to block spammers.
