Yes, the TidBITS announcement for MacSanta included the line:

In previous years, they celebrated the anniversary of the launching
of the Take Control Books around the first week in November by 
having a 50% Sale.  This year, I guess that the release of Leopard
fell too close to that anniversary, and they had a lot of new books 
released then.
