Hi Louie and Hank,

I always found that iTunes burned CDs and DVDs faster than the OS
and burn folders -- maybe by as much as a factor of two on my PPC
laptop (G4 Powerbook). Set the burning preferences to mp3 CD on
the burning tab of the Advanced Preference menu under iTunes
preferences (Command+comma to get the preferences menus then
Command+6 to get the Advanced preferences. Use item chooser to
select the burning tab).

I also found that I could play data disc burns on my mp3 CD player,
but your mileage may vary on this Basically, as long as all the
items you are burning are mp3 files, the data CD or DVD will just
be a collection of mp3 files with a final XML file that contains the
contents of your iTunes data base. This is useful (for me) because
the XML file contains additional metadata that you've added that
doesn't fall into the regular mp3 tag information, such as Comments.
If you import the data disc into another iTunes (even cross platform
between Mac and Windows), the data disc will have everything
that the mp3 CD has and more. The only problem occurs if you
have non-mp3 format files mixed into the middle of your data disc.
If my mp3 CD player hits one of those, it can't play or read beyond
it.

Hope this helps. You might want to do your own experiments on
what burns faster. Maybe the difference between burning in iTunes
and burning under a general burn file under OS X isn't so extreme
on the Intel Macs.

Cheers,

Esther
