I have a Macbook Pro but its probably overkill. Yes, faster processor and, I believe, you can put more ram in it. The casing its in was better but I think the Macbook now comes in the aluminum as well. I believe you can get a larger screen on a Pro as well.

I think that it depends on how and what you're going to use this new Mac for. I do audio production on my Macbook Pro but again, I suspect I could do it just as well on a standard Macbook. But, think of what you plan on doing with it. I thought of this as an investment as well. I got a faster processor and more power so in theory should be able to use this machine for longer than the slower and less equipped standard Macbook. But, one could find a lot of false assumptions in this line of thinking I'm certain.

Good luck.

I'm finally going to take the plunge but I'm a bit undecided. I'm not sure which to get either the MacBook or MacBook pro. I'm assuming that the pro
can come with a faster processor but that's the only real difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
