Agreed. Its one of the few nice things that the virtual buffer architecture
buys you.
How about using the item list (vo+i) and typing characters to narrow the
search? I thought the items list was constructed from all the text in the
window, regardless of visibility. Can anyone confirm this?

The issue I have with VoiceOVer find is that the text to be found must be
visually on the page before it will work. Should you be attempting to
find a word far down on a long webpage VoiceOVer find will fail. A blind
person would have no idea if the word they were looking for was visually
on the page or not. This limits the usefulness of VoiceOver find.
