Hi Thuy, I just saved the img to my Macintosh HD and then copied it over to an external to archive it. I have no idea why you're running into the probs you are, but perhaps someone on here knows better.

<smile> Best of luck and have an awesome day!…

Thanks Cara. I'll try it out. One more question. Where did you save
the image to? Was it to the Mac (HFS) formatted drive or an external
FAT32 drive? I'm wondering if there might be issues with FAT32 file
size limitations of 4 gig, since it is archiving it to one large .dmg
image file? Any thoughts?

Hi thuy, go ahead and read down the message you just replied to, or
further down this one, and all the info is there on the partition. As
far as the steps go; I followed Ryan Dour's recommendations and:

• opened disc utility
• selected the disc (or in this case, the Windows partition) in the
selection table
• went to the file menu and chose 'new'
• clicked on the 'create image from Windows' selection
• set a save location for the image in the dialogue
• and waited for a bit until it was finished

Hope this helps and have an awesome day!…

Hey Cara. How big is your Windows installation? When I tried to create
a new image, it started the process and then aborted after a while
saying that the file was too large. My Windows partition is 32 gigs
with 26 or 27 gigs of used space. Can you take me through the the
process that you used plese?

Cheers

Hi Simon, I mentioned in an earlier note that I'm wanting to take a snapshot of my Windows partition so that if I need to restore, I can,
without all of the hassle of reinstalling windows and such…

Hope that makes sense and have a great day!…

Dear Cara,

Just out of curiosity and by way of wishing to learn new things that
might be of value, why would you want to create an image of your
windows partition? Is it because you could then restore it should
you have had a crush? Would such a restore also restore your Jaws
with its authorisation?

With best and smiles

Hey Ryan et al' -Success with creating the disc image for
Windows. Ryan, thanks so much for your help. <smile> You rock!…

I have a couple of curious questions; My current partition is 20 gb and Windows including an install of JFW takes up 3.08 gb. My disc
img is about 8 hundred and something mb so I'm wondering if I did
it right? lol! I think I did, but that's one heck of a good
compression scheme eh?! lol! I know that the empty space isn't
used, so does that sound right?…

Secondly, you'd mentioned that if I wanted to restore from that
img, I could delete the current partition and then go through disc
util to restore; I get this but I'm wondering if I first need to
create another BootCamp partition so that the resulting restore
from the image will be larger than the image itself? I.E. larger
than 3.08 gb?… Am I making sense?…

I'm asking as I'd not needed to restore from an img before, so am
just wondering…

thanks so much and have an awesome night!…

Cara AKA Flicka Girl :)
