You asked: Is there a system preference or somewhere similar that i can control power options for my macbook pro? I'm thinking of stuff like controlling when the hd powers down, what happens when i shut the lid etc.
TK: try going to Energy Saver in your system Preferences. There should also be a pop-up that allows you to set things while on battery or electrical power.
