There was some discussion about this topic back in November and
December, where Jane and Darcy were experimenting with similar
projects.

I'm going to point you to one of my posts from that time in the Mail
archives:

This was my first attempt to explore automator workflows and to think about
ways to describe how this works in VoiceOver. In this post, i constructed
a simple Automator workflow to add files to iTunes, and tried to describe
how to navigate through different parts with VoiceOver. I'm sure people could
write better descriptions of this, and there are list members who are far more
familiar with Automator than I am. Another shortcoming is that I am working
in Tiger, and the labeling, buttons, etc. for VoiceOver is much better under
Leopard, so it should be much easier to learn Automator if you're running
Leopard. A second difference is that I believe that instead of associating
and grouping actions under application names like "iTunes", "Finder",
"TextEdit", etc. as I listed, in Leopard the categories are changed to "Music &
Audio", "Flies & Folders", etc.

Just as with AppleScripts, you can either just "run" an Automator workflow
(with Command+R) or save it (as a plug-in, in the case of Automator), so
that it becomes a menu option (that you can also probably assign a shortcut
to with the Keyboard Shortcuts Menu under Systems Preferences). In the
linked post that I gave, I only "ran" the Automator action.

Hope that someone else more knowledgeable responds, but this should get
you started. I haven't done much with this since then, so your questions are
probably best addressed to other list members.

Cheers,

Esther
