Most of my friends are sighted so they could see the icon. Besides, it's crappy and I have a better one in mind. I figured out that I have to change the photo associated with my account through the system preferences and accounts. But when I went there, I saw nothing about pictures, only username, password and the other tab was about hiding and showing things.
