Hi Eric,

You asked: I am new to VoiceOver w/my Mac (Tiger) and cannot find
the key command/s to open email attachments. I'm sure
that this is easy...can any of you more experienced
users explain the sequence? Your help is much
appreciated.

TK: Probably the most reliable way of doing this is to save the attachment to your Desktop and then open it from there. When in Mail, do the following:

• Press enter to open the message with the attachment.
• Navigate with VO keys left or right until you hear the "Save" pop-up button.
• Press VO-space to activate the "Save" pop-up.
• Arrow down until you reach the filename of the attachment then press return. • A Save dialog will appear, press cmd-shift-d to bring Save focus to the Desktop.
• Press return and the item will save to the Desktop.
• close your message.
• Press VO-shift-d to bring VO focus to the Desktop.
• Locate the attachment then press cmd-o to open it.

Remember that you must, of course, have the proper app to open certain documents.

HTH.
