A couple of things I would try:
1. After interacting with the control, try both VO+left and right as well as
up and down arrows and,
2. after interacting, try simple up and down or left and right arrows.
Short of that, M-Audio makes the iControl to control GarageBand from a
surface. It costs around $80 and essentially duplicates the layout of GB
controls with dedicated buttons and knobs along with transport controls and
a scrub wheel.

hey all
well here I am starting to get some tutorials created with garage band
and have noticed a problem which is irritating the death out of me. the
pan control within the mixer window does not want to respond to the
usual VO interaction and editing. anyone else noticed this? is there a
solution other than MIDI SysEX from a remote surface console etc?
