Dear Chris,

Thank you for all the information you have provided. Because I am a masters student, I am only going to be on this list for a few more days because the volume of email on this list is a such amount that I won't have time to read all of this and still get my school work done as I have a heavy reading load and 3 readers to spend lots of time with. Perhaps I will get back on the list during summer term as I only plan to take 2 classes.

p.s. my department is bugging me about possibly becoming a PhD student.

You could give this a try:

Audio Recorder will do stereo recording up to 192kHz and 32bit and is free. It can output in a number of formats including WAV. To record to mp3 you'll need to install the LAME library which can be found a number of places such as here:

http://spaghetticode.org/lame/

Once installed you can directly record to mp3 up to 320kbps.

I usually record to full quality audio and compress later. The app seems very reliable. I've never had it crash so now I use it to record live events without too much worry instead of dragging in a DAT or CD recorder. The controls seem to be simple and very accessible.

Hope this helps.

Dear list,
I'm looking for a recording software that can record in stereo and output and save in Mp3 and wav. format. Would logic express work for this? I have quicktime pro and Mac book 13" already and I am a VO user. The recordings I have currently come out in mono and do not save Mp3 in quicktime pro. And i've tried several other programs where the audio quality is poor and the voice over compatibility has been lacking. I do have a professional mixing board onsite that is putting out in stereo. The software that I use must be able to
1) produce a stereo recording
2) produce mp3 recording with a sampling rate of at least 256 or 320 kilobytes per second
3) should produce 16 bit full stereo wave
4) Should produce audio that is compatible with current professional video standards (i.e. current audio standards in professional grade videos or film productions)
