Hi Orin,

Manually changing the play position for tracks in iTunes involves
holding down the command-option-right arrow keys to fast forward
and the command-option-left arrow keys to fast rewind.

If you are having trouble using the "RestartAt" AppleScript from
Tim Kilburn's VoiceOver Downloads site:

http://homepage.mac.com/kilburns/voiceover/downloads.html

it is possible that you may have put this AppleScript into the wrong
folder.

There are two common locations used for AppleScripts for iTunes,
and both of them require you to create folders the first time you
use AppleScripts for iTunes and place copies of the scripts in these
locations as far as I know.

You can either put AppleScripts in the ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts folder
under your user account or into the main /Library/iTunes/Scripts
folder for your system.

On my laptop (in Tiger), I had to create a Scripts folder under my
personal Library/iTunes directory the first time I used AppleScripts.
In finder, I started from my home directory (Command-Shift-h), and
navigated to Library, then to iTunes, where I made a new folder
named "Scripts".

If I wanted to make these AppleScripts available to every account
on my laptop, I would have to create an iTunes folder and then a
Scripts sub-folder under my system's /Library directory. From
Finder, I would start from my computer (Command-Shift-c), navigate
to my startup drive, then to Library, then create a folder for iTunes,
and a folder under that for Scripts. Depending on my user account
privileges I might have to change permissions so that I can create
the folder.

Once the AppleScript has been copied into either of these two
locations you should be able to access an AppleScripts menu from your
iTunes menu bar. In iTunes, if you have selected a track in the Songs
outline and you want to change the current playing position or the
time at which it wiill start playing, you can use the RestartAt
AppleScript. You should be able to navigate to it with VO-keys+m and
the left-arrow key. The AppleScripts menu is between "Help" and
"Window" on the menu bar, and I'm told that you can hear it announced
under Leopard. Arrow down to "RestartAt" and carriage return to run
the AppleScript. A window will pop up with a prompt to enter a time
between 0:00:00 and the end of the track, with the current play
position shown in the text field You can type in a new value (e.g.
15:00 for fifteen minutes) for the start position.

YMMV. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Esther
