Humm, Greg, that sounds a bit technical, not the Fusion part, but running
Windows XP on the Mac. I guess that would involve partitioning your hard
drive? Would you have to have someone sighted do that and install Windows
XP or could Voiceover bleed over and let you do the whole thing yourself?

Well I have an even older copy, version 8 and it works fine here is what
I did.
Got VMware Fusion running. Make sure you run the update to Fusion and
have the latest version. early versions had some issues with sound.
With Fusion running, I run Windows XP Professional, install Kurzweil 1000
as you would in a normal windows computer. Set up Kurzweil 1000 to
startup when Window's starts.
At this point you have two choices you can leave Fusion as it is and
simply keep the Fusion icon in the dock. each time you start fusion you
will start Kurzweil 1000 as well. Or you can start Fusion and Kurzweil
1000 and then enter Unity mode in Fusion. This will break out the
Kurzweil 1000 window into it's own window on the Mac and make a Kurzweil
1000 in the dock. Go to the dock and choose to keep the Kurzweil 1000
icon on the dock. Now you have a Kurzweil 1000 icon on you doc and you
can launch Kurzweil 1000 from the dock just like any other application.
A few other things. I have found it best to set Fusion to shutdown the
Windows computer as opposed to the default setting of suspending the
computer. Suspension seems to give scanners trouble. Also you will want
to turn off VoiceOver (command-F) when using Kurzweil 1000 as you will
need to have access to your numeric keypad.

It is possible to use Kurzweil 1000 on a Mac. I do it all the time
using Fusion even have an icon on my dock for it.

I still don't have a Mac, mostly because I can't afford it, but
mainly
because there still seems to be problems. Because I need Quicktime
to hear
some things on the internet, I've been allowing Apple to download
stuff onto
my Windows XP Pc. Of course I can't use Quicktime, but if something

it, it's there. Just a while ago, it downloaded Safari. Out of
curiosity,
I wondered if any of it was accessible to any of the screenreaders I
have to
hand-Window-eyes, NVDA, or System Access to go. Interestingly
enough, I can
read the menus and even go to a web page, but it won't read the
page. I'm
assuming that sighted ones can use Safari on a Windows PC? Humm, I
wish I
could get Apple to donate some Mac Minis with Leopard to po' folks
like me!
(smile) My version of Window-eyes is 4.5 which shows you how far
behind I
am. Thank goodness for the free ones that are up-to-date. I've
got to
hunt down the "dualing" screenreaders.

P.s. For those of you that like to do these things, there's an
alternative for Microsoft Word called Atlantis Nova. It's the first
word
processor I've ever downloaded that makes noise! They are kind of
cute,
but you'd probably want to turn them off after a while.
