Hi,

I do not know what an iDV is, but here's how to get DVDs into a more portable format regardless of the playback method.

If the DVD is a purchased, aka a copy protected DVD, you will need to use a program like Mac the Ripper or even better, , DVDBackup. A google will find a download site for both. This does phase 1, getting a protected DVD to play on your Mac with DVD Player. It converts the DVD into a video.ts folder that DVD player can read and play.

The next step is converting the video.ts folder into other more portable formats. The program Handbrake is a good choice for this. This will munch it for iPod or Apple TV or whatever your favorite video format is.

QuickTime Pro, Apple's paid version of QT, as far as I know, will be of no use to you at all in this venture.

There are several sites that outline how to do this, so again, google something like "how to rip dvd mac to iPod" and you'll get a lot of useful links.

Finally, if the DVD is unprotected, you can jump straight to Handebrake to convert to another format.

Best,
Scott

Folks, just want to ask a question with regard to this application and DVDs I own. What I'd like to do is rip the DVDs I have to a hard drive that I could then use an iTV to play them. I've got loads of DVDs and a young child that has at times messed up a disc or two. From what I understand the iTV uses Itune to play the content so I have to apparently rip these DVDs to the Mpeg2 or Mpeg4 format. I dont' know if Mac the Ripper would do this or if I need to take the results from that and feed into Quicktime Pro. So, any advice is appreciated on how I could accomplish this task.
I've not gotten the iTV yet, but I'm giving it a great deal of consideration.

tnx
