Umm, David,

Jane was the one who originally posted that link to the speech synthesis
programming guide to the list as a forwarded email (smile).

Jane,

Since Greg has commented:

GK;
The apple speech manager has no embedded codes for changing voices on
the fly.

I'll just add that the only way I've found this voice switch on the fly handled
is by setting up a shortcut key that allows you to switch voices in mid reading
the way that the assistiveware folks do. With VisoVoice you can switch between
five voices either using their voice menu or with keyboard shortcuts. Their
more
affordable ConvenienceWare product, Ghost Reader, also allows you to switch
to 5 voices on the fly with keyboard shortcuts. However, VisioVoice is pricey,
and GhostReader is aimed at the mainstream text-to-speech market. It's usable
by low-vision users, but not really for totally blind.

HTH,

Cheers,

Esther
