OK, well. Here's what I see when I use my macbook. Granted, my
experience with macbooks is limitted to just two. Mine which I've
used for full on 3 weeks, and another one I played with before
Christmas.
It gets warm when emailing and browsing, but not alarmingly so. When
playing dvd's, or running constantly for very long periods of time,
I've noticed the back of my macbook gets really hot. There's an air
vent at the back hinge that churnes out hot air. The bottom of the
screen when it is open partially blocks the airway, but I think that's
pprobably to keep things from going into the notebook as much as
anything else. Durring these times, the bit of chassey t the rear of
the keybord get's uncomfortably hot to touch, and it can even be
slightly uncomfortable to have the thing on my lap.
I've been really cautious of over heating since I nearly burned myself
by covering up the bottom vents of a turion notebook and nearly
setting my lap on fire, smiles. If there's a tool to measure how hot
a macbook gets, let me know and I'll install it and try to give you
some quantitative information on just how hot this gets at it's peak.
Best,
Erik

Wow, I don't think I've ever had a heating issue with my little baby
Macbook. True, it gets a tiny bit warm on the bottom, but doesn't
every laptop? :)

There yah go, get it for the chassey if nothing else. The 2.4
processer gets wicked hot, I can tell yah, and if I'd gotten a
standard and found out it didn't have aluminum chassey, I'd be put
out.

Actually, the specs are not the same, the smallest macbook pro is
15" and it
has higher end video and an express card slot as well as some
additional
goodies and an aluminum case.

But is it really worth getting the MacBook Pro over the regular
MacBook? The
specs seem to be about the same. And the pro costs so much more in
comparison.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Heh dood, you might just hate this idea, and I wouldn't blaim you
in the
slightest, but have you looked at ebay? They have 2.4 ghz
macbook pro
units brand new going for, well last time I checked about $1800,
compaired with about $2500 in the apple store here in TO.
If you're going to pay top dollar either in store or via phone,
then go
store. The store has way more going for it. Want an apple
compadible tv
tooner usb or firewire device? The store has several. Case?
Bluetooth
keybord? Fusion? Questions about how to do something on a
mac? Want to
take a coarse in leppard? You can't do any of that over the
phone, but
you can do it all in the store.
Want to bring your thing in for service? Form a relationship
with the
ppl who work in the store. It's a huge investment. I bought
mine from a
third party because of funding, but I'd love to get to meet
people in my
friendly neighbourhood apple store at this point now that I'm
accessorizing.

Erik

I was about to get my MacBook, but wanted to know people's
opinions.
Should I just get it directly from a local Apple store, or call
the toll
free number or what to get it? And, is there any cheaper way to
get one
than Apple, and still get one new? And one thing I never had
answered
was the glossy screen. Does that cause any problems with
someone sighted
who may be looking at it? Or someone vvisually impaired for

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
