Unfortunately this has been going on for a long time and is a partial
explanation of the demise in utility for UseNet news and other spoiled
communities (posting spam being another culprit). I use a different
email address on this list than I do for work just because there is
always the prospect that somebody will harvest my address. To make that
less probable I don't include any contact info in my sig.
There's also been some editorializing about how the current generation
is going to have to deal with the internet archive of their past. For
many people the sins of their youth are forgotten and lost to time and a
few friend's memories. But what if you could search on anybody and find
an archive of their Myspace of Facebook from way back when with their
discussion about some pranks or bad behavior? Certainly politicians are
already subject to people digging up dirt on their past. What if anybody
could find out about the misdeeds you foolishly shared online with the
ease of a Google search. It's already happened, is happening more and
will soon happen all the time.

hi all
this is something a bit off topic but users of lists like this must
be aware of this. all messages posted to lists can be tracked and
viewed and used against you by people with intentions to harm or
inflict a bad name upon any person.
I have just experienced this first hand that a message from
macvisionaries was tracked and the user concerned has conducted an
abusive email attack upon me. this has horrified and upset me and I am
sickened to find this out.
how awful people in this world are. now I have officially lost faith
in the human race and I feel sick at the notion of someone searching
my name to find messages I have posted on lists including this.
sorry to place an off topic section here but this has made me feel
incredibly shaken.
