Hi Mike. First off, if you press return on the action you want in automator, it will be added to the work flow. So drag and drop isn't necessary in this case. As for the rate, yes you can speed it up. You need to put a command at the top of your text file. I don't know if I can type the command, because the speech may act on it, so I'll describe. You need two left brackets, followed by the word rate, followed by a space, followed by a number, followed by two right brackets. The number is the speaking rate in words per minute. This is different then what we see in VoiceOver, which is a percentage. You'll have to do some playing to see what rate works for you. With Alex, I personally like a rate of 300 for books I've done. Note also that the brackets I refer to are the ones to the right of the p key.
