which keyboard are you using. I have two of them and I am able to use hardware and software functions on both computers. I have a Macbook early edition, an Imac 2.16ghz with a wired aluminum keyboard and a bt aluminum keyboard and they all work fine. You are saying I think that you cannot change the volume or brighness or any of the other hardware things of windows with your keyboard any longer?
