Here are some of your questions with answers.
1> Is the dom navigation similar to how
the windows screen readers handle things?
Yes and no. It is more similar than group mode but if you have worked with
later versions of JAWS, group mode is similar to the alternate
presentational layout that jaws provides. The nice thing about voice over
though is that it does good sequencing in both modes. Actually, group nav
is a quick way to learn about a page.

2> When you purchase a mac, is it supposed to also include a
leopard dvd?

Your new Mac will have a package in the box that contains everything on the
Mac so if you decided for some reason to wipe the drive and put it back to
what it was like when you bought it, you'll be able to do that.

3> If I do install windows, I will probably go the boot camp
route, I'm assuming this will require sighted help?
Yes, once the windows installer takes over, because there are no drivers for
windows audio on the system, the entire install including installation of
the drivers will not talk. As soon as the drivers are installed though, you
can fire up narrator or put the disc of your favorite windows AT in and it
will talk.

4> Is it possible to select
several files at once like you can in windows?
Yes.

5> What about defragmenting the
hard drive? Are there programs you can get to handle that like in windows?
The hd doesn't get defragmented because it doesn't get fragmented unless you
run windows on it and you approach that from windows. There are tools for
diagnosing and keeping your system in good condition but if you run
permission repair when you update, install new software or remove a lot of
stuff, you should be fine. Your apple care plan provides a disc with tools
to test and fix problems should they arize. Others will point you to 3rd
party tools no doubt.

Subject: a few questions

Hi all. I had a few questions before I purchased my mac. If someone could
help me out, it would be much appreciated. The main things I want to do with
the mac are email, web surfing, playing mp3 files, playing and burning CDs,
and watching dvds. I'm assuming those tasks are pretty accessible? I will
probably also use skype. I know with voice over, you can navigate a web page
using the dom, or use group navigation. Is the dom navigation similar to how
the windows screen readers handle things? I've heard that group navigation
is actually faster in some cases, I haven't tried surfing the web with voice
over yet, but I would think that the dom navigation might be better for
unfamiliar pages, and the group navigation might be faster for pages you're
familiar with. When you purchase a mac, is it supposed to also include a
leopard dvd? I assume you could use that to restore your hard drive to how
it was originally? If I do install windows, I will probably go the boot camp
route, I'm assuming this will require sighted help? Is it possible to select
several files at once like you can in windows? What about defragmenting the
hard drive? Are there programs you can get to handle that like in windows?
Hopefully, if everything goes well, I will have a mac later today.
