I had weird problems like that with adium too. i'm not sure how to fix it!!!
either my name showed up as my user name, or my email address but I couldn't
get what I wanted for my screen name in without some major random deleting
and messin' around. then the other day I tried to add something to my name
and it wouldn't add it. I have no idea what's up with adium and name
changes!! maybe someone can enlighten the both of us, lol.

Subject: Changing My Name on Adium
I changed my name on Adium and can't change it back. This is not my
username, just the name that appears when people talk to me. I did
the exact same thing that I did the first time and other times before
that. I went to preferences, added something onto my name and hit
enter. It showed up and was fine. Now, I deleted the extra stuff and
hit enter, then closed preferences with command w. So why is it that
my name still has the additional words in it and how can I delete
them?
