Actually, it is.  Here's how.

Highlight the word you want to find a replacement for.  Use VO-Shift-M
and choose "Lookup in Dictionary." Hit Command-2 and voila!
Thesaurus.  That's pretty fast for me, and requires very few keystrokes.
