You asked: Listers what could be going on when I press command, option, shift delete to empty the trash and I get a stop and continue button? I press the continue with space bar because that is the only way it does anything and the trash doesn't empty. I've tried emptying the trash using the ellipsis and still the same thing happens. The only work around seems to be restarting the computer.
TK: That normally appears when there is something in the Trash that is either busy or in use. The MacOS won't let you actually totally eliminate that file until after the restart. When the computer is restarted, the offending file will not be loaded and thus emptying the Trash is permitted.
