Apple is doing work on Dot Mac and it's flaky now and again. They are
supposed to be renaming it Mobile Me and adding advance features. Even
FTP is slower when sending files to a public or Dot Mac account.

Hmm, as far as i see now, yes. The reason why i wondered if the
drivers for the scanner could be the issue was because this started
happening after i had installed the scanner, but it doesn't have to
be related of course.
