So, what your telling me is that when the machine has been put to sleep, it will speak the time on the hour. So, not to insult your intelligence or anything, but are you certain the machine is actually asleep? I only ask this question because I have never encountered a Mac that could talk in its sleep. Seriously though, it just seems amazing it would do this, I do not have a newer Intel-based Imac, but I can't imagine the firmware would include a feature like this.

pretty fascinating and I do have mine set to speak on the hour. How
are you putting it asleep? I'd like to see if I can reproduce this."

I do nothing to put it to sleep, it has always done so. It is a new
imac purchased in dec. I also now recall that along with the recent os update the imac firmware was also updated. I wonder now if that is the
cause and not the os?
