OK, Tim, I really don't wanna have to redo the o s again, but I'll chance it it turn it back on. Now, granted before I turned the firewall on, and enabled access to the web sharing, but... I can try again.

Chris.

Hi Chris,

You wrote: Does anyone have the slightest clue why on my power MacG4 AGP Graffics running Tiger 10.4, every time I enable web sharing, so I can use apache, all goes fine, but then if I ever restart the system, for one reason or another, the system shows the gray screen with the apple logo, then that goes away and the logon screen starts to come up, but then it never finishes.

TK: Have you tried simply turning on Web sharing then quickly restarting your Mac? This may help to determine whether it's really anything to do with the Web Sharing resource. Does it restart normally if Web Sharing is not turned on?

CB: This to me is incredibly annoying. The only way I've seen around this is running a disc repair, and sometimes that won't even work and I have to then just reinstall Tiger with an Archive.

I'm beginning to feel the Mac version of Apache isn't worth the trouble.

TK: The Tiger version of Apache is quite stable and switching to Leopard would likely make no difference to you at all. I run the Tiger version of Apache to serve my school web-site at
http://fathermercredi.com
with no issues at all. It has run without a hitch for years through numerous software updates and web-site changes. There must be some other factors in your situation.

CB: Anyway, any suggestion of thought why this is consistently happenning?

TK: As in my questions at the top of this response, I think we'll need more info before really coming up with an answer to this. We'll need to narrow down the factors that contribute to the problem.
