I just wanted to be sure you weren't trying to power the burner off the USB bus. Some devices, like CD burners, pull more power than the bus can provide. Do you know how to use System Profiler? I think you can start it from the Apple menu.

Hi Chris,
Does this drive have its own power supply?

well, I got an old u s b CD writer made by hp. I hooked it up and plugged in to my Tiger machine but it's not seeing it. I dono what model it is. My x mother inlaw got it off ebay one day when she was on a Godly stupid rampage about yea, I'm f***ing rich, I can buy whatever the h e double hockey stick I want, how I want when I want. Yeah, she was kind of a jerk, but anyway, point is, I don't know the model. I do know it doesn't seem to be recognised though. I'm wonderring if anyone knows of any specific brands or even more models that are external u s b that would burn CD's that I could get that would just be, plug it in, and go. no drivers needed or at least, if they are, that would be a sinch to install.

I don't have a burner on the mac, and really would kill to add one. I don't feel good enough to pop the thing opened and install an internal burner. I know how to do it, but due to my disability, I do not have the fine motor skills needed to do it.

So, if anyone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.

Remember, this is Tiger 10.4.11. I also have all the current updates with none less.

Chris.
