Hello all,

I am wondering if there is a way I can set the root password from the terminal. By default when I set up my mac I did not specify a root password. When I go into the terminal and type

su root

it asks me for my root password and I just hit enter because i don't have one and it fials

Then I try doing

passwd root

It asks me for my old password, I just press enter, and complete the new fgields and it fails. Is this a problem with not having a root password by default? I am sitting at a $ prompt and have no idea how to do this. I can use software update and what not, but I just can' set a password and I'd like to do that just because I can. Thanks for any help you can provide.
