Hi Simon,

When you cursor over to the subfolder you want, move your mouse cursor to your VoiceOver cursor (with VO-keys-Command-F5 -- or VO- keys-Fn-Command-F5) and then double-click by tapping the space bar twice while holding down Control-Option-Shift.

The save as menu dialogue works like Finder, so you can choose the folder you want to start from in either the sidebar or the outline. You can also navigate in the outline by typing the first few letters of the folder you want as well as using your cursor. You can also use Command-up arrow to go up a folder level.

When you use double-click to select (where each click is VO-keys- Shift-Space) the folder you've selected in the outline appears at the pop-up button. (You can stop interacting and VO-keys left arrow back to the pop-up button to check).

Another thing that you can do if there are folders you frequently you use: in Finder, select the folder you want and then add it to the Sidebar with Command-T. This is also one of the options under the File menu of the Finder menu bar if you don't remember the shortcut. So if you have a special folder under Documents that you are working with, you can select it in Finder and use Command-T to add it to the sidebar. Then when you do your "Save As" operation, you can choose that folder from the sidebar.

For those people using Numpad commands under Leopard, you can probably do you double-click selection with the Numpad shortcut keys.

Dear Listers,

I feel such a fool having used my Mac since last December. I continue to have problems saving files into the right subfolder of choice. I go into the save as dialogue and then choose a folder via the pop-up button. Mind you, only the main folders are listed there. I then cursor right to the file list where I cursor to the right subfolder. I then press the safe button and horror of horrors my file ends up in the folder chosen in the pop-up menu not the subfolder I have chosen in the file list. What am I not doing right? I would have chosen the right subfolder had it been listed in the pop-up menu but they are not. Can I force my Mac to list all the folders and subfolders in the pop-up menu?

I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks, lsiters, Simon
