It should get tracks names from CDDB if you're online when you do the CD rip. There is a setting to turn this off in the Advanced Importing preferences tab. Maybe that got turned off somehow. In general I find iTunes as fast as anything else and the quality is quite nice. I did bump up the datarate a bit as I like my music quality to be really good. Main limitation seems to be the speed of my laptop CD drive rather than the CPU.
