Hello, May I just ask where I could learn more about using mousekeys
on my Mac? I am not familiar with this facility or its use or even its
usefulness for a blind user, I mean totally blind user.
thanks, Simon

Hi Josh,
You can actually fine tune your positioning to play audio book
samples on the U.S. Audible web site by using VoiceOver to make a
one-time measurement of cursor positions for the word "Listen" and
for the "Add to Cart" link just above it. Basically, if you want to
measure the difference between the x screen position of the mouse
positioned on "Listen" and the x screen position of the mouse
positioned on "Add to Cart". Then when you start with your mouse
cursor positioned on "Listen" you can turn on Mouse Keys and move
that number of screen units to the left by (on a MacBook) holding
down the Fn key and tapping the "U" (move left) key that number of
times. You can stay in this Mouse Keys mode (on a MacBook) and
start or stop the sample playing by holding down the Fn key and
tapping the "I" key. (This is like using the number 5 key in Numpad
Commander to "click"). Then when you finish listening to the sample
you can turn Mouse Keys off (hit the Option key 5 times).
On my Macbook, the x separation between the center of "Listen" and
the center of the "Add to Cart" link is 25 screen units. If you map
out where you can start to play the sample (with Fn i), the center
is actually about 5 screen units further over, (30 Mouse Key presses
left rather than 25).
This result can probably be amended appropriately for other desktop
and laptop keyboard/screen combinations.
For my Macbook, starting from the "Listen" link, turning on Mouse
Keys, and moving 30 screen units (Fn+U key presses) left puts me on
the Flash "play" control, which I can start or stop with Fn+I in
Mouse Keys mode.
HTH
Cheers,
Esther
