As for hte Griffin Firewave, yes, it can handle 5.1 speakers. It will
also have an extra fireport on it, so that you can have a fireport,
should you need it.

I heard a lot of good thigns about the Griffin Firewave. It is an
external solution that runs via a firewire port.
I just recently puchased mine, for about 20 dollars at the official
griffin technology site. It was on sale, originally priced at 100
dollars.
Just google it, and you should find it right away.
