Esther, to add to this thread. I've attempted to use command+period and I've found that it doesn't stop the sync in progress. Not sure why, but I wonder if it's something to do with the process of writing to the device and it can't be interrupted or something. Don't know, but not very helpful. :)

The problem is, depending on where he was in the process, that might not have provided a fix (at least from my reading of some instances of the Apple Discussion Forum posts troubleshooting the first connections setup with the Nano 4G), but it's a good thought. In the case of multiple background processes I think it only applies to the one currently active.
