I know you already got an answer on this but to give a little more 
detail, crossover emulates windows APIs while VMs emulate PC hardware. 
So they wrote a bunch of code which takes, say, a Windows call to play a 
sound file and shunts that to the Mac audio API call to do the same 
thing. So software that isn't using the Windows API or uses API calls 
that crossover hasn't supported yet won't work. Most screen readers need 
to bypass the Windows APIs to do their thing so they would fail to work 
on Crossover. Even so, its free today so you might as well grab a copy :)
