Yes, I have an idea. You should choose to "connect" the device if you
did not have the guest OS as the front most window at the time you
physically attached the USB device. Simply unplugging and replugging
does the trick in most instances. Also, remember that unlike the Mac,
Windows is unforgiving of changing USB ports. A braille embosser on
the left side of your MacBook one day is not the same braille embosser
as the day you decide to plug in the thing on the right instead. Very
unprofessional, and one great reason why USB is simply better on the
Mac.
