is it just saying the name of your drive?  do you have mouse keys turned on 
by any chance?  do you have numpad commander turned on?

Hi David, I don't know how I have my finder preferences set, but when
I've seen the num pad work, I couldn't remember if I was in key board
practice, or where I was, and I never have changed any preferences in
the finder, as far as I know.

Hi all, somebody was helping me, and we discovered that the num pad
doesn't work while in the finder, it's just that, when it has worked,
I've always forgotten what program I was in when it does work, but it
does not work while on the finder, something I think will be helpful.
