Hi Alex
Don't give up, I'm convinced you have the start of an awesome idea here. I think the major thing is that you need to have something that stands out over a laptop other than the price. If you do indeed get a braille display constructed to where you can sell it for around $500 USD and build that into the device, you would have a buyer in me if for no other reason then to have the braille display, which is something I just cannot justify spending $3,000 or more on no matter how I think about it. Even if the notetaker concept doesn't take off, if you manage to sell $500 displays you would take the blindness community by storm and could force a dramatic price decrease on braille displays and perhaps other blindness products as well. Another thing to think about is that you're posting this to a list full of blind Mac users. Most of us have already got Macs and really like the systems we do have. I don't really see that much of a notetaker croud around here--I've seen a few questions related to Mac and notetakers but not all that many. To be honest I would've expected more of this kind of thing, so I'm not sure how many of us on here are actually into notetakers in general. This part is pure speculation on my part though, we may very well have more notetaker users on here than it seems. I'm not among the notetaker user croud myself, just trying to give a possible perspective.

That being said, even if it's not something I'd personally use, I support this idea. You need any help--product testing, ideas, programming help, etc--I'll do what I can to help out with this. The mor on the market, the better, competition is never anything but a good thing. I'd still definitely check with Apple to make sure this is even going to be possible. Something else, there seems to be some confusion on what exactly this device is intended to be. As I understand it, it is basically planned to be a screenless netbook with a braille display built in, possibly a braille keyboard . Do I have that right? It's not intended to be a modified iPhone or iPod Touch, not a PDA-style device like those? Just want to understand exactly what it is as the topic of iPhones got merged in here along the way and now I'm a bit confused :).

Hi,

All set up for the adventure of hardware design, I'm not sure whether to continue. I mean, just about every person here has rejected my ideas of The EyeMac, so I don't know. Finantially, developement is a big burden, but it would be ok, if not for the fact that no market seems to exist.

Any help?

For the time being, developement will go ahead as planned and will probably reach the beta stage before a final decition is reached. Not to sound like I will just drop off the accessible platform, merely that more research may be needed.

Thanks for listening,
Alex,
