Hi everyone!

This topic came up earlier this week and I've been doing some research.

I've been using JAWS 10.0 with Windows XP and VM-Ware Fusion for a little while now and I have some tips to work around some of the keyboard issues that list members were discussing earlier on this week.

To date I've only tried JAWS using the standard Desktop Keyboard layout where the "JAWS" key is the insert or 0 key on the number pad, I'm going to try the alternative laptop keyboard layout later on today where the "JAWS" key is the "Caps lock" key n the Macbook but one thing at a time.

As far as things go you should have little trouble using the "JAWS" key with other keys on the keyboard except for those times when you need to use function keys, there is a way to fix this however.

Under "System Preferences" in Mac OS10 Leopard, select "Keyboard And Mouse" and select the "Keyboard Shortcuts" preference pain, either disable those function keys which you'll be most likely using in your VM-Ware Fusion JAWS session by clicking on the check-box to the left of each keyboard assignment in the keyboard shortcuts table or reassign the option to a different keyboard shortcut value so its not in the way. Personally, I feel that a lot of these shortcuts could be completely disabled anyway, I don't for example use widgets or the dashboard all that much.

Now for those who are using Macbooks and wish to simulate an "insert" or "JAWS" key and not switch layouts? Hold down the FN key and press "M", that will give you a "JAWS" key so for instance, if you wish to get into "JAWS" where its menu system is, hold down fn-m-j, you'll hear "JAWS". To close JAWS for example hold down fn-m-option and F4, JAWS says "Exit JAWS?"

Anyway I'll be interested to hear how people find this and how they find working with JAWS under a Virtual Machine, I've had no problems whatever I have to admit (and that's amazing that I can say that about JAWS <smile>), works very well.

Cheers
