Hi friends, I just had another stab at this getting the braille sense
plus to function as a braille display on the mac. I've gotten it to
function as a braille display on another computer using window-eyes
and jaws. Plus, I have the new macbook to be getting on with, so I
thought it would be worth another try.
Before, the mac would simply freeze up after about a minute of having
the braille sense plugged into it, which pretty well rendered it
useless for my other opperating systems running on fusion, and really
killed any joy there might be to be had with this set up.
Now we have progress. Today when I plugged it in, it simply didn't
work. So we've gone from active hostility to passive nonconformance,
which seems like a step in the right direction.
Here's what I did.
Turn off the macbook.
Turn on terminal mode and select usb as my interface.
Plug the cable in at both ends.
Turn on the macbook.
When the macbook boots up, no braille display is detected, but the
system does not freeze.
Just to see what would happen, I turned off terminal mode and turned
on flash disk mode. Boy, it didn't like that. The mac popped up an
error that it couldn't read the disk, and the braille sense froze
completely. Now, that's a totally seperate problem and one that
conserns me not in the slightest right now. I basicly wanted to test
the connection between the braille sense and the computer.
I'm using a brand new macbook pro 2.4 ghz machine with all of the
software up-to-date. The Braille sense is supported as a braille
display, and it shouldn't matter that I'm using a plus not a classic,
unless some one who has done this before can assure me definitely that
it does. In fact, I'd really like to talk to any one who has tried
this. I want to set it up for a client, and I just don't see any
reason why it shouldn't work. My braille connect works just fine.
