Alex;

The reason why Olearia can not read the DTBook files that OpenOffice makes is that at this point Olearia can only read full audio DAISY books. We are working hard on adding text only DAISY to Olearia as soon as possible.

One misunderstanding about both the OpenOffice and WSWord "save as DAISY" solutions is that they produce finished formal DAISY books. This is not really the case however. What they are producing is a DTBook XML file which can be used in turn to produce a DAISY book fileset with tools like the DAISY Pipeline. There are plans to integrate the Pipeline into these tools so they will in fact generate the whole set of files that DAISY requires.

Some DAISY playback devices, such as the VictorReader Stream, are able to read the DTBook files directly and it is hoped that Olearia will be able to as well. But strictly speaking a DTBook file is not, in and of itself, a DAISY book.

If you use the DAISY Pipeline on the Mac you can take the DTBook files you get from the OpenOffice conversion and have Pipeline's Narrator option produce a full text/full audio DAISY book fileset which the current beta version of Olearia can read.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
All,

I need to know why the Openoffice extention for DAISY Talking Books won't export something Olieria can use.

Also, is there another alternative to convert straight text to DAISY Talking Books on the Mac.

Thanks for listening,
Alex,
