Iris' recognition is excellent, especially the latest version 11.6.
I wouldn't even consider Omnipage at this point. Nuance is not forthcoming with information, and the web page for it hasn't been updated in a few years. Unless evidence surfaces to the contrary, I'd call Omnipage for Mac a dead product, and consequently not worth spending $500 on it. It wouldn't be the latest engine in any case, probably isn't even a universal binary. Read Iris does better for me than Omnipage 16 or Finereader 9 in Windows, both in character accuracy and layout retention, which is configurable in a number of ways. My only complaint with Read Iris is that its scanning facilities are absolutely pathetic, and I need to use VueScan to do the actual scanning, as the newer versions of Scangear are a serious pain in the backside. It's a good thing they integrate very well together, so at least it's not a pain to use once configured.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.
