I was looking for an editor suitable for some Ruby scripting tasks, and
TextMate immediately came to mind, as it is highly regarded by a large
number of Rails developers.
I grabbed the 30 day trial off the TextMate website to take it for a test
drive.
For the most part the app seems pretty accessible, except for one very
critical component, the edit control.
I see from a quick Google search that someone already raised a bug about
this back in March 2007, however it still appears to be broken.
Unfortunately the bug report didn't indicate who might have submitted it, or
have any follow up from the software developers.
I thought I would throw a quick email out on the list to see if that person
might have had any follow-up correspondence from the TextMate developers,
and any indication if this particular bug might ever get fixed.
Also if anyone else has any suggestions for a Ruby editor that would very
much be appreciated.
I use Eclipse 3.4 for Java dev, but I don't really want to bloat my Eclipse
installation any more than absolutely necessary with the Aptana and radrails
plugins, so am looking for something a little more minimalist.
