I started writing a reply, but that post turned into "Dealing with
inaccessible web pages by sending selection to TextEdit" that I just
posted as a new thread. However, if you read that you'll see
references to using some options like "Start speaking text" under the
Services menu that may provide some of what you want to do, and get
around the problem of VoiceOver interruptions by problems in the
underlying web page coding.
