got the jist. I do recall thinking that about my MBP at one stage,
the mic was extremely quiet. If you haven't already done so, check in
the recording part of volume control, there should be an advanced
button next to the check box to select the mic, and in the dialog that
the advanced button opens there's another check box for a 20 db boost.
As far as I remember, that wasn't checked by default for me, and it
went a long way towards solving the problem.
