are you a skype user who doesn't like to use the skype chat system?
Well, why don't you go to this page:

and install that plugin. From what i can see, you can add and chat via
text with your skype contacts. I did however, not get a chance to try
out calling someone, i don't syspect you can, but wasn't sure if you
knew of the skype api plugin for adium,
